Rubbed the Wrong Way: Acne Mechanica

You’ve been so good lately about working out and are quite proud of yourself–going to the gym, ball with the boys, hitting those trails, riding the waves, and working up a sweat. But along with your new fit physique, there has been an unfortunate development: acne. You may have noticed that you’ve started breaking out under the straps of your favorite sports bra or on your forehead where your biking or football helmet rests. There’s actually a term for these types of breakouts; it’s called acne mechanica.

Acne mechanica happens when clogged pores are exposed to pressure or friction leading the debris inside of the pore erupts into a blemish. This could be caused by anything from your sports bra to protective gear such as helmets or shoulder pads. So, how can you

avoid this without losing your amazing abs? It’s pretty simple, really–you need to prevent those clogged pores from forming in the first place. When you are finished with your physical feats, hit the showers! Wash your face and body with a non-comedogenic cleanser suited to your skin and apply your active topical products.

At LAC, we offer treatments designed to help clear your body acne. Your Acne Specialist will customize your home care with exfoliating serums to remove dead skin cell build up and benzoyl peroxide to prevent pores from getting clogged. Now you won’t have to choose between a powerful physique and smooth skin!
